Family bond drives Albany’s Sam Jewell to claim staggering sixth WA Formula 125 State Title triumph in Morawa

Star Albany speedway driver Sam Jewell said his recent Formula 125 State Title success was a genuine family celebration underpinned by their deep-rooted connection with the sport after claiming his sixth WA crown last month. Jewell finished first in all three heats at the State event in Morawa held on April 13 before converting his pole position in the decider into a sensational victory and in the process winning the AQMAWA Neville Allpike perpetual trophy after accumulating the most points overall. Lining up alongside his brother Braiden on the starting grid, Jewell said his sixth State title was a proud achievement for his family who were entrenched in the sport. “It’s always something that is always high on my win list, it’s the pinnacle of the motorsport for us for the year so it’s good to get it back into the household as such,” the 36-year-old said. “My wife drives and she won the title two years ago, my brother drives, my dad used to drive and then my partner’s father also drives. “Further on our cousins and best mates all drive as well so yeah, I’ve done it for I think it’s 24 years this year and it’s been great. “It’s another great achievement, like I say, it’s very family orientated.” Going up against 16 worthy competitors, Jewell said the track favoured him on the way to the triumphant win. “It was just about getting the job done in the end. The track suited me and I did all my homework and I got there in the end,” he said. “Starting on pole I kind of just got up and drove away and led from start to finish. “To be at the top of your game, we’ve got to keep trying to stay there, so you got to keep thinking outside the box and keep moving forward.” Narrogin’s Georgia Ellis finished runner-up ahead of Braiden Jewell while fellow Albany driver Cameron Tester rounded out the podium.
