Geographe Bay Football Club wins close youth league match against Busselton Football Club
Geographe Bay Football Club’s third youth league contest of the season saw them score a victory against a strong Busselton City FC.
Despite being a little light on numbers, the side was in a buoyant mood heading into the match in Bovell after winning their first two opening games.
There were plenty of chances for Geographe Bay early in the game, but a strong performance by Busselton’s goalkeeper made it tough.
Pressure by the Seasiders saw Max Leach score from the left side of the box in the 20-minute mark, in his first game after returning from a torn muscle.
Busselton City equalised 10 minute later, before grabbing the lead with another goal just before half-time.
Geographe Bay’s Noah Moroz was forced off the field around the same time, not playing the rest of the match after suffering a knee injury.
Leach scored again to bring the match back to even shortly after the break, which remained stuck at 2-2 heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
Both teams put each other under pressure at both ends of the field, with Seasiders’ Stewie Pearce breaking the tie to notch his fourth goal of the season.
A bullet header direct from a corner saw City tie the scores again, with Geographe Bay down to 10 players in the final 10 minutes after Leach was forced off with serious cramping.
It was a frantic finale, with the Seasiders’ goal under significant pressure from Busselton City.
However, Geographe City proved to be the better side with Pearce and Ari Copeman scoring two goals in quick succession to finish the game 5-3.
In the Seasiders’ other weekend results, the club’s division one men’s team returned from Australind with a 3-2 victory.
Goal-assisting winds for both teams made it anyone’s result with minutes to go, but the visitors held fast with a strong defensive four to return home with a victory.
