GNFLW round 3: Teams separate themselves early with Royals, Rams and Bulldogs all dominating

The Towns ladies continued their dominant start to the Great Northern Football League women’s season with a 9.10 (64) to 0.0 (0) win over Rovers on Saturday.

Rovers were able to slow Towns early, limiting their scoring to just 15 points in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs came out in the second with a shot on goal that goes sideways, but a turnover gives Gemma Dix a chance to slot one through the sticks.

Towns looked a chance to score again quickly, but a Shanelle Jetta interception got the ball out of the Rovers forward 50.

The Demons women’s backline stopped the game from getting out of hand, winning contests, and stopping potential goals.

Where they were let down was in the midfield, with Towns dominating throughout the middle of the ground and not giving Rover’s defenders a chance to catch their breath.

Towns put away another three goals in the final quarter to get the 64-point win, Olivia Bidwell was named the best on for the Bulldogs.

In the other games across the women’s competition, Chapman Valley dominated against Mullewa in a 18.10 (118) to 0.0 (0) blowout.

Lucinda Rouse had a day with five goals to her name, while Cassandra Green kicked four and Ruby Wallace slotted three during the big win over the Saints.

After the big win, both Rouse and Wallace sit equal first in leading goal kickers in the league with six through three rounds.

They are tied with Royals teammate Sahara Clarke, who had two on Saturday, and Towns’ Ashleigh Jones.

While at Purcher International Oval, Northampton got up 8.9 (57) to 1.1 (7) over the Brigades ladies.

Rams were on target with their goal kicking early, going 5.0 in the first half while Brigades managed 1.1.

The game got away from the Hawks in the second half, as they couldn’t hit the scoreboard again.

Chapman Valley sit firmly in first place on the ladder with back-to-back blowout wins, while Northampton and Towns are just below with all three having 2-0 records.
