After two years in furlough, popular regional music festival Groovin the Moo will make a comeback in 2022 but won’t be coming back to WA.

On Tuesday, organisers Cattleyard Promotions announced the multi-stage event, which began with two NSW instalments in 2005, is scheduled to hit Maitland, Canberra and Bendigo next year.

However, GTM would not play Hay Park, Bunbury, where it was held from 2010 to 2019 before the previous two instalments were scrapped because of COVID-19.

The line-up for the cancelled 2020 festival included Tones and I, the Veronicas, Kelis, Mallrat, San Cisco and the Cat Empire.

Townsville in Queensland and Adelaide will also miss out next year after being pencilled in for last year’s circuit.

Promoter Steve Halpin, of Cattleyard, said the full six-date tour would return when organisers could “confidently deliver our full quality show”.

“At the time of making this announcement, the restrictions in place in WA don’t allow for a festival like Groovin the Moo to confidently tour to Bunbury in 2022,” he told The West Australian.

“GTM has to consider a number of factors like interstate borders, large capacities and intricate logistics to link all our States.

“We’re continuing conversations with local stakeholders and will return when we can be comfortable that we’re going to deliver our full quality show.”

When Groovin the Moo played Bunbury on May 11, 2019, fans were treated to performances from Billie Eilish, DMA’S, Hilltop Hoods, Regurgitator, Thelma Plum and G Flip.

The line-up for the 2022 east coast festivals will be unveiled in January.

Tickets from the 2020 festival are valid for the 2022 shows.
