VideoBefore we started watching SAS Australia, we didn’t know much about Jackson Warne - other than that he was the Spin King’s son.

Fans of SAS Australia recruit Jackson Warne have rallied around the breakout star after he revealed the emotional toll of being Shane Warne’s son.

The 21-year-old was relatively unknown six months ago, but since appearing on the hit Seven show the Australian cricket legend’s son has quickly gained respect from viewers for his strength of character.

Jackson has proved to be very different from his notoriously hard-partying and gregarious father, revealing he had only tried his first ever beer yesterday, and admitting during last night’s episode that he finds himself uncomfortable in social situations.

While being interrogated by the directing staff, Jackson revealed that his introverted nature was a result of growing up in his famous father’s shadow.

“Trust is a big thing with meeting new people, in the sense of, ‘what’s their gain from it? why do they want to meet with me, why do they want to interact with me?’,” Jackson said.

“It’s been pretty frustrating my whole life, whenever I walk into a room or meet someone it’s always ‘that’s Shane Warne’s son, Jackson,’ it’s never, ‘that’s Jackson,’ I just want to be Jackson.”

The younger Warne also said that he agreed to do the gruelling military style challenge so he could make his dad proud.

“Doing this, I know I can prove to people no matter how easy my childhood was, I can still do the tough stuff and still push myself physically and mentally,” he said.

But pushing himself is not second nature for the show’s youngest recruit, who also opened up about how he avoids “interacting with people because I don’t know (what) they assume about me”.

“I just don’t feel comfortable in groups or in teams,” he confessed.

Fans have flocked to social media in the wake of last night’s episode to show their sympathy for the “nice guy” of the series.

Another viewer made the keen comparison between Jackson and cricketing great Sir Donald Bradman’s son John, who changed his last name to Bradsen to escape his father’s fame.

Jackson first caught viewers’ attention when he admitted to only having tried 10 foods in his entire life and is now developing a keen following as he posts reviews as he tries to broaden his food and beverage horizons.

Earlier this week he reviewed watermelon after his first tasting.

Now, in a video posted to social media overnight, Jackson tried his first beer — a Corona “of course given everything that's been going on” — and gives it a rating of eight out of 10.

”That actually tastes, pretty good...not bad,” he says.

His co-star James Magnussen urged him to try oysters next, while dad Shane Warne replied: “Hahahahaha !!! Well done.”
