Bulls breakthrough at home for first win of GSWFL season

Mt Barker recorded their first win of the Great Southern Women’s Football League season after holding rivals Albany goalless at Sounness Park on Friday night.

The Bulls had showed encouraging signs in their first three matches but produced a four-quarter performance to win by 28 points in round four last week.

Ivy Parsons provided great spark and was well supported by Tea Etheridge, Saige Askevold and Mikaila Kowald.

The home side kicked one goal in the first term then broke the game open in the second with two majors.

The Sharks fought back in the third quarter and had more chances inside 50 but they failed to capitalise on the scoreboard, managing just two behinds.

The Bulls finished full of running as they added a final term goal to cap a memorable night on home turf.

Georgia Kowald, Tahlia Mcroberts, Taylor Hart and Nakeesha Miniter all kicked goals as the Bulls won 4.7 (31) to 0.3 (3), jumping to fourth place on the ladder.

The Sharks were best served by Marlee Ashton, ball winner Hayley Williamson, Bethany Rainbow and Brittany Ward.

Royals came from behind at Collingwood Park to win their third game of the season, downing North Albany.

Midfielder Laura Archer kicked truly in the first term to give the Kangas the lead and then went into the half-time break ahead by a single point.

Forward Gracie Gibson was a key for the Lions in the last half and along with captain Rachael Goetze and Kathryn Jennings, got their side back into the game.

The Lions went into the final term with a five-point lead and finished 19-point winners in the end as Gibson bagged three majors.

Sophie Loveridge kicked the Lions other goal as they prevailed 4.2 (26) to 1.1 (7).

The home side was held scoreless after quarter-time but Archer, Kate Minter, Lily Minter and Teal Harris were in their best players.

Britney Bolton finished with three majors and midfielders Ksharna Coyne and Ella Scamozzi were also important for Railways as they beat Denmark-Walpole by 29 points in the later game at Collingwood Park.
