IN PICTURES: Albany’s Biggest Morning Tea brings locals together to support Cancer Council research

The Hilton Garden Inn Albany event space was packed to the rafters on Thursday morning as the Albany community rallied to support cancer research at a breakfast fundraiser. More than 100 people attended Albany’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising a whopping $4392, and exceeding numbers from the 2023 event. Cancer Council WA’s Great Southern education officer Bruce Beamish spoke to the crowd about his own 2021 diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and his daughter’s recent breast cancer diagnosis — both of which were now in remission. “It is actually a sad fact that just about everyone will be impacted by cancer,” he said. “It’s not just the cancer patient, it’s the friends and the family as well. “Last year’s Cancer Council fundraising was able to allocate more than $2.4 million dollars to 83 world-class cancer researchers across 30 projects right here in Western Australia, which is really important. “It’s only with support from guys like you that we’re able to continue our work, which we think is really valuable, so thank you very much for being here and thank you very much for the passion with which you embrace the work that we do.” Jointly hosted by the Albany Advertiser and Hilton Garden Inn Albany, the ticketed high tea spread included a raffle and a silent auction.
