Swim patrols take a break

People still heading to Rivermouth are on notice lifeguards finish up for the season this weekend.

The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River sponsored Surf Life Saving Australia patrols operate only during summer when the region has high numbers of visitors.

Shire sport and community recreation manager Dylan Brown said beachgoers should exercise caution and read signs before entering the water for a surf, swim or dive.

“The ocean can be unpredictable, especially in winter, so it’s important you read any safety signs – including the beach identification details – before going for a swim, surf or dive,” he said.

“Enter the water with other people when possible, and if you find yourself in trouble, do your best to stay calm and attract attention.”

The advice was particularly focused on visitors and people unaccustomed to swimming in the ocean.

River Mouth patrols are set to resume on December 17 for the second year of the three-year contract.
