Know your numbers

University of Technology Sydney professor of statistics Louise Ryan says people should pick traditionally “unpopular numbers” to veer off having to split potential winnings.

“What you can potentially play around with is a strategy about maximising your expected winnings,” she said.

The most frequently drawn winning Powerball numbers from the main barrel are seven, nine, 11, 17 and 25.

The Powerball’s golden number is 19.

To heighten your chances of taking home buckets of cash, avoid using numbers that form a pattern.

The lottery analysis has encouraged punters to steer clear of last year’s least drawn numbers 6, 15, 18, 31, 33 and the unlucky 13.

Extra draws = extra chance

Take advantage of extras to up your chances of winning a staggering $120 million.

Extras are added features that boost the earnings of non jackpot wins for a price.

More than half of 2021 Powerhit entry winners paid for extras.

Use system bets

System bets allow you to pick more numbers and choose multiple combinations at a set price.

The more combinations, the higher your chances of winning, because more games are being purchased.

Quickies for quicker results

Quickpick techniques may lower your chances of choosing the same numbers as another player.

The random number generator is aimed at reducing the risk of shared wins.

Up to half of Aussie adults are expected to have an entry in the draw on Thursday, which has the second-biggest jackpot ever offered by any Australian lottery game.

A Sydney nurse who won a whopping $100 million in 2019 will be overrun as Australia’s biggest solo winner if one person wins division one tonight.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said Australian lottery history could be rewritten this week.

“If there’s just one Powerball division one winner this week, they will instantly become Australia’s biggest lottery winner ever,” he said.

According to The Lott, the “luckiest” postcodes in Australia last year were Port Macquarie in NSW and Kirwan in Queensland, where four division one winning entries were sold in 2021.

The draw will kick off at 8.30pm tonight AEST time.
