“We can really be there for local artists and support the arts community in the South West,” she said.

Ms Corps said the centre could now cater for more of the community with the opportunity to do more within the new space.

“Local artists can come and put on workshops and share their skills,” Ms Corps said.

“The Fringe Festival is going to be at the centre next year, so many exciting times ahead.”

Centre chair Carlene Williams said she knew the centre would get put to good use and involve the whole community.

“After years and years of wishing, hoping and planning it is a real thrill to have got to where we are today,” she said.

There was shared excitement among the staff and board members with the new indoor toilets.

“We had to walk out in the rain to get the toilet before as it was a separate block outside,” Ms Corps said.

Ingenia Gardens sponsored the event with delicious catering for the guests. Village manager Trudy Turner said they wanted to get involved because many Ingenia Gardens residents attend classes at the arts centre.
