City of Busselton confirm Dunsborough McDonald’s sign nothing more than a prank

A sign claiming a McDonald’s was coming to Dunsborough in 2025 sparked a flurry of concerned comments on social media from Dunsborough residents, but has been debunked by the City of Busselton. Local Facebook groups were sent into a spin after some members posted an image of a sign on a fence in Dunsborough seemingly announcing the town was set for a new store. The red and yellow banner features the iconic McDonald’s golden arches logo and slogan “I’m lovin’ it” with the message “Opening mid 2025!”. A City of Busselton spokesperson confirmed there was in fact no plans for a McDonald’s store in Dunsborough and the sign was likely a prank by a member of the public. “I can confirm it is a prank and the City has not received, nor has any pending applications for a McDonald’s in Dunsborough,” they said. A Dunsborough McDonald’s was nearly a reality in 2014 but a deal fell through due to a suspected land dispute.
