Developing Dunsborough band In Between Spleens have grown a strong local fan base and are enjoying an eight-week stint of gigs in Perth and the South West.

The band got together after a Facebook post calling for local musicians to jam with, and have recorded a seven-song set including debut single, Thanks In Advance.

The band consists of lead singer Cleo Destouches, lead guitarist Eddy Rodda, rhythm guitarist Mitch Peacock, and James Alabisi on drums.

Peacock said the band were working on an EP and an album, with recording planned for the next few months in a Dunsborough studio.

“From the beginning of the band two years ago we’ve played a handful of gigs at parties, the River and the Corner Bar, but after Pretty Uglys gave us a chance at Mojos we’ve been booked out in Perth every week,” he said. “We’ve met a lot of other bands and seem to be getting a bit more recognition up there from playing a lot and trying to be the best at our craft.”

The band are influenced by Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sticky Fingers, Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.

WAAPA-educated Destouches said she was more comfortable with jazz singing but was developing a more punky edge to her live performances.

“When I wrote the guitar parts for Thanks in Advance I wanted it to be dancey and funky and after the second chorus it turns into a full head-banging punk song,” Peacock said. “It’s always a surprise and it brings in different crowds because you've got people who like mellow and others who like punk and it blends the two worlds together.

“Some of the lyrical content is about people acting different and trying to fit in, so it’s quite relatable. Come down and see us and you’ll hear the Spleens.”

In Between Spleens will support Death by Denim at the Dunsborough Tavern on November 14 and Sly Withers on November 28, as well as playing the Margaret River Augusta Community Headspace Festival on November 21 and in Bunbury for Stop The Violence festival on December 5.
