Time for local volleyballers to dust off their knee-pads as the 2020 indoor season is set to begin, albeit belatedly, due to COVID-19.

The Busselton Volleyball Association is planning to start a shortened indoor volleyball season at Geographe Leisure Centre from Thursday, July 23. Four grades will be offered: A-grade, A-reserve, B-grade; Social.

Meanwhile Busselton are represented by both a men’s and women’s team in the, also shortened, WA Volleyball League competition, which started last weekend in Perth. Both teams convincingly won their grading day matches.

This is the first time a Busselton women’s team has entered the WAVL competition to test themselves against the metropolitan teams.

Fielding players of varying ages and experience, the women’s side was victorious over Fremantle in a four-set match. Ari Cavagnini was dominant around the court for Busselton.

The men’s team have recruited star former State indoor and beach player Brett Lewington to add further depth to their team. Busselton then scored a comfortable three-set win against Southern Cross.

Recently re-elected Busselton Volleyball Association president David Hutchins said he was hoping both the local and Perth competitions were able to progress with games after the relaxing of training and playing restrictions.
