Alexander Heights: Four men charged over bashing of two police officers at service station on weekend

Four young men have been charged over the bashing of two police officers over the weekend.

The two male constables were allegedly assaulted with their own accoutrements in Alexander Heights in the early hours of Sunday at a service station on Mirrabooka Avenue.

Police say the officers attempted to engage with a driver of a vehicle parked at the station before the driver and his associates allegedly became aggressive and surrounded one of them.

“A conflict ensued and it will be alleged that members of the group assaulted both officers,” police said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“One of the police officers was kicked and punched in the head. He was also was struck to the back of the head with his police torch.

“OC spray was deployed and the group dispersed.”

The two constables attended Joondalup Health Campus and received medical attention for minor injuries.

Four people allegedly involved have since been arrested and charged. They are all facing two counts each of assault public officer.

An 18-year-old man from Koondoola appeared in Joondalup Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He will next appear on February 3.

A 34-year-old man from Koondoola also appeared in Joondalup Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He too will next appear on February 3.

A 33-year-old man from Marangaroo, who is also facing a breach bail charge, will next face court on February 25 after appearing today.

A 28-year-old Bennett Springs man who’s also faced with a stealing charge will next appear on February 3 after also making his first court appearance on Thursday.
