The Geraldton Pistol Club is looking forward to more shoots in its diamond anniversary year after holding a two-day shoot for the State titles last month.

Former Commonwealth Games gold and bronze medal shooter Mike Giustiniano won multiple events throughout the weekend.

Geraldton finished third in the Bruce Welburn Trophy for team aggregate points.

President Murray Gratte said conditions were ideal.

“The weather was glorious on Saturday, not so much on Sunday, but still good,” Gratte said.

“It was extra special hosting (the titles) in our 60th anniversary year.”

He said Giustiniano’s record showed the quality of competitor the event could attract, however, it was open to people of all abilities and ages and adaptive shooters.

Gratte said the club was planning to host zone carnivals later in the year against Northampton and Perenjori

Shooters from the metro area’s two main pistol clubs, Whiteman Park and Cockburn, competed against the best the local area had to offer for the State gongs.

Geraldton had multiple winners in the events.

Daryl Brown won the A-grade 25m standard pistol event while Liza Doble won the C-grade. Doble also won the B-grade women’s 25m pistol.

Bill Okely won D-grade 50m pistol and C-grade 25m centre fire pistol.

Geraldton came third overall in the 25m rapid fire pistol and 50m pistol events.
