Investigation launched after patient shot by police in hospital

A man was shot by police at a hospital in regional Queensland after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife. Police were called to Kingaroy Hospital in Queensland about 7.20pm on Friday night. When officers arrived, they were allegedly threatened by a man wielding a knife. He was shot by police and received immediate medical attention. The man was flown to Sunshine Coast Hospital for ongoing treatment of his injuries. A crime scene has been declared at Kingaroy Hospital and police investigations are continuing. The Ethical Standards Command is also investigating the incident, and the Crime and Corruption Commission will have oversight over the investigation. Darling Downs Health told the ABC that the man was a patient at the hospital when he was shot. “Earlier this evening, Kingaroy Hospital contacted Queensland Police out of concern for a patient who presented to the Emergency Department,” a spokesperson told the ABC. “Staff at the hospital acted swiftly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of other members of the public in the area.” Anyone with information has been urged to come forward.
