A mother-and-daughter duo have exemplified the Aussie spirit, organising Easter bags for families and children in need.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Jemma and Julie Belhamine have created more than 150 bags full of Easter eggs in an effort to spread joy to those struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jemma, a daycare provider, said the project started when her income was halved after the Federal Government’s childcare package and she needed something to cheer herself up.

“I was feeling really down about everything, so I said to Mum we should do something nice, make ourselves feel better and bring some happiness to others,” she said.

“We’re lucky that we have dual income homes but others aren’t as lucky as us, whether it be due to losing work through this time or parents being on the frontline and unable to make it to the shops.

We are both family day- care educators and enjoy putting smiles on children’s faces.” Jemma and Julie have been inundated with support.

“We popped it on Facebook and the community has just stood up ... from money to eggs and help packing and delivering,” Jemma said.

“Alex, at the Kalgoorlie Dentist, wanted to make sure the children remembered to brush their teeth, so she donated 50 bags with toothbrushes and toothpaste.”
