Karnup trainer Jason Miller will shift his focus to the Boulder Cup on September 22 after Admiration Express scored a gutsy win in Sunday’s $100,000 Coolgardie Tyre Service Coolgardie Cup (1760m).

The mare initially sat fourth from barrier two before being edged into second at the turn by Clint Johnston-Porter and then held off Starry Heights ($2.30 favourite) to take the victory.

Miller, who basked in the spoils of his first triumph in the Coolgardie Cup with a big syndicate of owners, said it was an ideal run.

“It unfolded well,” Miller said.

“She had a good barrier, Clint rode her very well and she toughed it out on the line.

“For probably the last six weeks we’d been thinking about it (nominating the five-year-old).

“It had always been in the back of my mind and they (the owners) are a great bunch so this (win) was good for them.

“She’ll be nominated for the Boulder Cup in two weeks and the TABtouch Stakes on the Saturday (September 21 at Belmont Park).

“I’ll pick our best option when the fields come out.”

Leading trainer Peter Fernie dominated Sunday’s eight-event card with five winners — including Pirate’s Alley ($4.40), Secret Style ($1.95 favourite) and Don’t Wait For Luck ($3.30 favourite), each with Lucy Fiore aboard.

Troy Turner and William Pike rode Fernie’s other winners, Zing To Win ($2.25 favourite) and Secret Attraction ($1.90 favourite), respectively.
