Generous donation paves the way for a significant decrease in Rising Stars program fees in NDNA

Rising Stars players in the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association are enjoying a significant decrease in their fees this year after the generosity of two senior players, Abby Munns and Mia Slawinski.

Munns and Slawinski began fundraising for a trip with tour operator Wanderers Australia to play netball abroad in the UK and France in 2020.

After spending a significant amount of time raising about $3000 through activities such as car washing, raffles, money boards and recycling of bottles and cans the pair were unable to travel because of the COVID pandemic.

The duo were disappointed and unhappy that their tour plans were cancelled but made the decision to donate their funds to the NDNA Rising Stars netball participants for 2022, which has resulted in all players receiving an $80 deduction on their fees for their inclusion in the program this year.

Slawinski has been playing netball with Rising Stars for the past eight years and Munns has played for five years, since moving to Narrogin.

Both girls said they liked the idea of the money helping to promote the development of local netballers while decreasing the cost to all participants for 2022 as their reason behind donating.

Munns and Slawinski are both passionate netballers having played from a young age and are currently both playing in the local A1 competition.

Slawinski holds her C-badge in umpiring while being a part of the NDNA panel umpiring squad and Munns participates in the NDNA umpiring cadet group working towards obtaining qualification.

Both girls have coached junior teams in the past and enjoy every aspect of netball.

Slawinski encouraged younger players to get involved with Rising Stars to form new friendships, not only with fellow teammates but with players from opposition teams.

Munns says she has many good memories and friendships made, noting the Rising Stars program’s fun atmosphere with everyone enthusiastic about furthering their netball.

Her involvement in Rising Stars also culminated in her selection for the Great Southern Region to attend State Cup in 2018.

This year’s parents and players of Rising Stars are very grateful for the donation.

NDNA president Rheannon Turton was impressed with the girls’ generosity and the whole committee wishes to thank them for the kind gesture.

Turton said Munns and Slawinski are role models to younger netballers.
