Moustaches of all shapes, sizes and colours will be grown to raise funds for mental health awareness at the Pingelly Mo Bros’ live auction this Saturday.

The Pingelly Mo Bros initiative was founded by four locals who saw a need to raise awareness of mental health in the region.

Following in the footsteps of the Yealering Mo Bros, the group is running its second live auction to raise funds for the Movember Foundation at the Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre on Saturday at 4pm.

Co-organiser Chris Turton said the community raised almost $25,000 last year which was the highest amount by a Movember team in Australia.

“It was great to get that recognition from the Movember Foundation and that they really had taken on board what we are doing,” he said.

“They’re pretty excited about what we’re doing in Western Australia and especially in the little country town of Pingelly.”

There are 49 items up for auction with some of the big-ticket ones including a night for two at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, dinner for two at Monty’s Leap in Albany and a wheel service from Pingelly Tyre Service.

“We’ve pretty lucky to have all our sponsors and the participants who have put their hands in their pockets and given us something we could auction,” Mr Turton said.

Guest speakers will be providing a presentation on mental health awareness in the region before the live auction begins.

“We struggle a fair bit in the bush, like every little regional town,” Mr Turton said.

“We just want to make sure that everybody knows that everybody has got somebody to talk to.”

Mr Turton said the aim of the event was to have a little bit of fun while also raising awareness for mental health issues in the wider community.

“This event is really just to get everybody out and about and to be aware before we all sit on headers, trucks and tractors and get in our own little worlds,” he said.

“Its not just men’s mental health.

“That’s something we have tried to push — it’s not just about the men, it’s also about the families, the wives, the kids, everybody who is involved in the farming community across Australia.”
