I’m sure for many that 2021 felt like a very long year with little reprieve, but here we are at the end of 2021 with the privilege of reflecting on many positive milestones achieved at the City.

In Kwinana, lockdowns gave us the opportunity to “stay loyal and shop local” and from local traders we have been advised that our economy has been all the better for it.

We laughed along to the OMG! Fringe Festival performance in May as well as the Get in the Grove event in November. As the year draws to a close we also look forward to the annual Lolly Run.

We have witnessed remarkable investment in the industrial area this year, along with a significant decline in the unemployment rate.

The Kwinana Council welcomed three new councillors in October, namely Barry Winmar, Sue Kearney and Michael Brown and we also announced a new Freeman of the Municipality in David Nelson.

In May, some of WA’s major arts and culture organisations will partner with the City to deliver CHORUS, a dance project against domestic violence, with more than 100 women from across Perth set to perform at the Koorliny Arts Centre.

Next year, we are aiming to provide a Community Concert in February, the Alcoa Children’s Festival and Kwinana Youth Fest, both in March, and of course many of us are looking forward to Costco opening in Casuarina in the second half of the year.

On behalf of the City, may I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mayor Carol Adams OAM
