Shire president Chris Pavlovich said Mr Howard was a worthy recipient.

“He has been the chairman of the Bendigo Mount Barker Community Bank for 15 years and has been a very active member of the community,” he said.

“He plays a pivotal role flying the community bank flag and putting the profits back into the community.”

The Rotary Club presented its vocational award to long standing councillor Sue Etherington.

Ms Etherington was a foundation member of Empowering Plantagenet Seniors, a volunteer-run organisation hosting social activities and providing support services for senior residents.

Mr Pavlovich said Cr Etherington had been instrumental in starting up the seniors group.

“It’s a social hub in our community and helps with not only social avenues but access to services,” he said.
