Usher Park to receive $200,000 floodlight upgrade thanks to State Government grant

Much-needed lighting upgrades for Usher Park are one step closer following a State Government grant of $200,000 for the works. The floodlight upgrade funding was announced in the latest small grants round of the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and Club Night Lights Program. Kalgoorlie-Boulder mayor Glenn Wilson said the grant would allow the city to shuffle money it had earmarked for the works to the Goldfields Oasis Playing Fields to further renew lighting assets in parks across the city. “Usher Park is a great asset for our city,” he said. “It’s used primarily for soccer all year round, so having the flexibility of a venue that is adequately lit, but also with the surface in the shape that it is at the moment for soccer and for training purposes, is enormous.” Member for Kalgoorlie Ali Kent said she hoped the park was the first of many local facilities to receive grants for upgrades. “I think it’s safe to say that the sporting facilities in the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder have lacked maintenance and renewal for some time,” she said. “This $200,000 to upgrade these lights at Usher Park is going to make a massive difference to the players, the kids, the parents, everybody that uses this facility.”
