Driver dies as car hits tree on Vasse Highway near Pemberton

One person is dead and another is injured after a car slammed into a tree near Pemberton on Saturday.

The red Holden Commodore sedan was travelling south on the Vasse Highway at about 1.30pm when it left the road and struck a tree near the Pemberton Farm Chalets.

The driver — a 76-year-old Pemberton man —died at the scene while his passenger — a 74-year-old woman also from Pemberton — was rushed to Pemberton Hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives from the major crash squad would like to speak to anyone who saw the Commodore in the area before the crash.
