It has been months since the official opening of the Edenlife village in Australind and residents are settling into the $47 million retirement village.

Designed to “fill the gap” between the rising number of senior citizens and the number of affordable housing options in WA, Edenlife Australind is home to former Eaton residents Terry and Leanne Hackett.

“We wanted to downsize, our house in Eaton was getting to be too big to manage,” Mr Hackett said.

“We were looking at villages around the South West and when this one came up we saw it and thought it was a no-brainer for us.

“The lifestyle here is great, we love it. We can pack up and go whenever we like, the staff are friendly and keep an eye out for us.”

Now retired, the former electrician enjoys spending his time out in the veggie patch.

I’ve got the veggie patch looking quite good,

Mr Hackett laughed.

“After the storms the bowling green was quite dirty so I spent some time cleaning that up and helped set up the shed where I spend a lot of my time playing with tools.

“The community facilities here are great, the wife goes swimming in the swimming pool, we have access to a games room, library, outdoor kitchen and everything is at our fingertips.”
