Jackson Donovan: GoFundMe page created for family of six-year-old killed in Rockingham crash

The family and friends of six-year-old Jackson Donovan, who was tragically killed in a horror crash in Rockingham on Friday, have created a GoFundMe page to support the devastated parents during this “unfathomable time.”

The primary school student’s mum Klara Donovan had just picked up her little boy, who was the “most hilarious, smart, sweet, kid,” from school with his younger sister Rosie, when the tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon in East Rockingham.

The family were caught up in a four-vehicle pile-up when a 64-year-old driver — who is believed to have suffered from a medical episode — rear-ended the family’s black Kia slamming them into the back of a Transperth bus.

Another vehicle then crashed into the wreckage.

The crash was so severe the six-year-old was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital.

After a gruelling two days, little Jackson lost his fight for life after his parents made the heart-wrenching decision to turn off his life support on Sunday.

A friend of the family has created a fundraiser for the grieving couple to cover the boy’s funeral costs and “loss of work” as a result of the crash.

“The Donovans have been contacted by so many incredibly generous people wanting to gift them in this time of need, so we created this GoFundMe,” the friend wrote.

“Thank you so, so much in advance, from a deeply grateful family.”

Hundreds of loved ones, friends, and strangers have donated and the fundraising goal was increased from $40,000 to $50,000 because those who donated were “insanely out of control generous”.

By 9am, more than $28,000 had been raised.

Many people have commented expressing their sorrow and grief over losing Jackson, saying the six-year-old was a “beautiful boy” and “gorgeous big brother.”

“Rest in Peace beautiful Jackson. You and your family are very much loved by so many,” wrote one friend.

In a heartbreaking post on Facebook yesterday, Ms Donovan expressed her sorrow, saying “everything went white” at the time of the crash.

“I was so confused until I realised we’d just been hit really hard and all the airbags had deployed around me,” Ms Donovan said.

“We were pushed into the traffic and got hit one or two more times, which spun the car.”

Ms Donovan detailed the moment she knew she had lost her little boy.

“Rosie started screaming,” she said. “Jackson was quiet and I was honestly so confused as to why he didn’t answer until I saw him.”

“Chris and I can’t wrap our heads around how everything has just stopped,” Ms Donovan’s heartbreaking post continued.

“His love of video games ... he loved reading Dr Seuss books to us. His joyful little friendships. His great love for his sisters ... His Paw Patrol onesie. Chicken wrap happy meals with frozen coke.”

Ms Donovan said she’d miss her son sneaking into her bed at night.

“He had just won some uno cards at school and was loving learning the game and teaching Everley so he would always have someone to play with him,” she said. “And he was really excited for the new Bluey episodes starting this week.”

The family said they were “devastated beyond words” after losing their boy — the most “hilarious, smart, sweet kid”.

Premier Mark McGowan said everyone was thinking of the family during the “terribly sad situation.”

“We wish them the best, it’s very, very distressing,” he said.

Mr McGowan thanked the first responding ambulance officers who arrived on the scene within four minutes amid the ambulance ramping emergency.
