Rebel Wilson sued for defamation after accusing three producers of embezzlement and ‘inappropriate behaviour’

Aussie movie star Rebel Wilson is being sued for defamation after accusing three producers on her new film of embezzlement and “inappropriate behaviour”. The 44-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday where she accused producers Vince Holden, Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron of “bad behaviour” while working on her musical film, The Deb. “This dates back to October of last year, where I discovered bad behaviour by these business partners,” the Pitch Perfect star said. “They are the so-called ‘producers’ of the film and I use that phrase very lightly. “I reported their bad behaviour when I found out. . . big things (like) inappropriate behaviour towards the lead actors of the film, embezzling funds from the film’s budget. . . so really important things.” Wilson accused the trio of preventing The Deb from being premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and said she had been met with “absolute viciousness and retaliatory behaviour”. “I’m trying to film my movie with my gorgeous Australian cast and crew ... and yet, every step of the way, these people who I complained about then tried to make my life hell,” she said. “Now, we’re almost at the finish line (and) they’re saying. . . it might not get released (and that) they might bury it. “This is work hundreds of people who have put their heart and soul into, and this behaviour is absolutely vile and disgusting.” Wilson went on to allege Ms Ghost of having a “history of doing this kind of thing”. “These people are forced to sign NDAs, or otherwise threatened to not speak out,” she said. “As you guys know, I’m not like that, I won’t be threatened, I will speak the truth and warn people about these people in the industry who are just not behaving ethically. “If the movie doesn’t play at Toronto, it’s because of these absolute fuck wits.” According to Variety, the trio have denied the claims and went on to file a defamation lawsuit at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday. The documents allege Wilson’s comments were a “defamatory tale” and accused her of having a “history of fabricating false and malicious lies to hider her own lack of professionalism and advance her own self-interest”. “This lawsuit is about holding Rebel accountable for her attempts to bully plaintiffs (the producers) into conceding to her unreasonable demands by spreading vicious lies without regard for the irreparable damage her reckless words would cause on the hard-earned personal and professional reputations of plaintiffs,” the documents read. The lawsuit alleges Wilson of unprofessional conduct, claiming she disappeared from set for long periods of time and threatened to “expose” the financiers on Instagram. “Rebel is a bully who will disregard the interests of others to promote her own film,” the producers’ lawyer told Variety. Wilson is also alleged to have “demanded” writing credit based on a “prior contractual agreement” after The Deb’s original screenwriter Hannah Riley was awarded full credit by the Australian Writer’s Guild. On Friday, Wilson posted a photo of herself with the crew and cast The Deb, writing, “It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH”. “Those ‘producers’ who I mentioned in my last post have just filed a defamation suit against me and sent to the press. “Let our cool movie play at Toronto and stop messing about with a rubbish defamation suit against me.”
