AFL trades 2020: West Coast coach Adam Simpson confirms Zac Langdon one of ‘a few targets’ for the club

The West Australian
VideoAFL: There are still plenty of trade whispers fluttering around with Jesse Hogan now being linked with a potential move to GWS.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson has confirmed the club will be more active this trade period than last, with a ‘couple of targets’ firmly on their radar.

The 2018 premiers had their trade wings clipped in 2019 after offloading a host of picks to Geelong to secure classy midfielder Tim Kelly.

Simpson admitted there are a few players on his radar, with the ‘silly season’ officially beginning next Wednesday.

“We’ll be reasonably (active),” Simpson told TABradio.

“I think everyone is at the moment but things will settle, it’s such a long time, feels like it started half way through the finals.

“We’re always on the look out to improve our list, sometimes you’re more active than other years and last year we were obviously heavily into getting Tim Kelly across.

“We’ve got a couple of targets who we’ll look at but we don’t have a scatter gun approach.

“I don’t think you see West Coast out there looking at every player in the competition normally so we won’t be any different this year.”

The 44-year-old confirmed the club’s interest in securing GWS small forward Zac Langdon, admitting he hopes it doesn’t take the full trade period to get the deal done.

“That’s to play out in the next couple of weeks but the understanding is he’s pretty keen to get home, through personal reasons as well as to advance his footy so we’re definitely part of that conversation,” Simpson said.

“Hopefully we can work towards that, that’s for the future and hopefully we can find it next Wednesday.

“Hopefully we don’t find out two weeks after that! How long does it (trade period) go for? Hopefully we can get it done a bit earlier (than eight days from Wednesday).”

Following trade period, West Coast’s first pick in this year’s draft is selection 30, after forfeiting pick 13 to Geelong as part of the Kelly mega-trade.

Their remaining picks are 49, 54, 85, 103.
