Ex-footballer Brendon Goddard has taken aim at the Collingwood Football Club, labelling them “insensitive” for reports it wants to offload star midfielder Adam Treloar.

Reports emerged on Tuesday night that the Magpies were looking to trade Treloar – who earlier this month publicly stated he wanted to stay at Collingwood – as the club fears he won’t be able to handle living apart from his young family.

Treloar is contracted until the end of 2025 on a big money deal, but faces a tough 2021 with his fiancé Kim Ravaillion relocating to Queensland with the couple’s young daughter so she can continue her netball career.

“How are you getting this so wrong?” Goddard questioned on AFL Trade Radio.

“The reason that you want the guy to leave the footy club, because you don’t believe he’s going to get the best out of himself because his family is living away, that’s so insensitive, wrong and based on assumptions.

“It’s the totally wrong way to look at it.

“You should be wrapping your arms around this guy and saying ‘you’re going to get through this and we’re going to make this easier for you’.

“To use it as an excuse (to get rid of him) … I don’t accept that at all. This is looking worse and worse for Collingwood."

Treloar, who has previously spoken about his mental health issues, paid tribute to his fiancé for having the courage to put her career on hold as she carried their daughter Georgie.

“She made a huge sacrifice for us as a family to start our family in the middle of her career,” he said on FoxFooty.

“We chose obviously to have a child and she sacrificed her body for that.

“The sacrifice for me is something extremely small for her to be away and commit to 10 months of playing netball.

“The reality is we are both professional athletes.

“I can’t be more proud of Kim and the decisions she’s made. I love her to bits. I think it’s the best thing for our family going forward.”

Treloar has reportedly been told he is unwanted at the Magpies, but Brisbane has already moved to rule out a play for the 27-year-old.

That leaves Gold Coast as a possible destination, with the Suns holding pick five in the upcoming draft.
