Bush and ‘Burbs: Where new Western Australia signings Brody Couch and Baxter Holt will play Premier Cricket

Scarborough’s stacked Premier Cricket line-up will be boosted this summer by the signing of new Western Australia paceman Brody Couch. The former Victorian speedster will play for the Gulls this season after relocating to Perth, joining a club that already boasts Perth Scorchers stars Lance Morris, Andrew Tye and Cooper Connolly, as well as reigning Olly Cooley medallist Matthew Spoors. Meanwhile, ex-New South Wales wicket-keeper Baxter Holt has landed at Fremantle, also joining a stacked list that already includes State veterans Ashton Turner, Sam Whiteman and Jhye Richardson, as well as Australian white-ball captain Mitchell Marsh and WA-contracted quick Sam Greer. Holt will travel to the Northern Territory this week as part of an Emerging Scorchers team to represent the Big Bash League club in the Top End T20 league which starts on Friday. He has shifted to WA in what is effectively a straight swap for Josh Philippe, who is headed to NSW and leaves last year’s Premier Cricket two-day grand finalists Scarborough. Couch has been playing Major League Cricket in the United States for San Francisco Unicorns. He played one first-class game for Victoria before moving States this off-season. In another significant club cricket move, WA second XI regular Fraser Hay will play for South Perth this summer. The 28-year-old moves to Richardson Park from Melville, having also spent time at Gosnells. Bush and ‘Burbs understands Scarborough were also in the mix for his signature. It is also understood rival clubs have been keen to prise Sheffield Shield-winner Teague Wyllie out of childhood club Rockingham-Mandurah. Wyllie has returned from playing club cricket in England this winter and will head north with the Scorchers squad.
