There's no keeping Jhye Richardson out of the limelight with the Australian fast bowler snapped up by the Welsh Fire for The Hundred series.

Only a week ago the West Australian became the second most expensive bowler in Indian Premier League history when he landed a $2.5-million contract to play for the Punjab Kings.

The Fire announced on Tuesday they had drafted Richardson, as well as West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, to replace Australians Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc.

Smith and Starc decided against playing in this year's event but that created an opportunity for Richardson, who is currently in New Zealand with Australia's T20 squad.

Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch, who is also in NZ, has been named captain of the Northern Superchargers squad which also comprises allrounder Ben Stokes and his England teammate Olly Stone.
