An astonishing first-half blitz has thrust Freiburg into the Bundesliga top-four as they embarrassed Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0 in front of their own fans.

The visitors were two up after five minutes, four up by 19 minutes and their fifth on Sunday made them the first ever away side to score five in the first 25 minutes of a Bundesliga game.

Gladbach conceded one more to reach the break a remarkable six behind with Freiburg converting 75 per cent of their eight shots on target.

Maximilian Eggestein poked in the opener on just two minutes and Kevin Schade headed an immediate second. Both came from crosses from the left.

Earlier, Stevan Jovetic's double had inspired Hertha Berlin to a 2-2 comeback draw at VfB Stuttgart as the reign of new coach Tayfun Korkut started with a deserved draw.

Korkut took over Hertha this week after Pal Dardai was dismissed and the hard-fought draw keeps the Berlin side 14th, one point and one place better off than Stuttgart.

On Saturday, leaders Bayern Munich had opened up a four-point advantage at the top thanks to a 3-2 win away to second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
