Holden star Chaz Mostert has claimed a wire-to-wire victory in Sunday's second race at Symmons Plains to snap Red Bull Ampol Racing's early dominance of the Supercars championship.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver got the jump on ex-teammate Cam Waters at the start of the 44-lap race in Tasmania and steered clear of any danger to secure his first win since joining the team at the end of 2019.

"It's been a long time for the first place for us in Supercars, or me personally, so starting to believe that I couldn't do it for a long time ... super stoked for the team," Mostert told Fox Sports.

"That car in that last race was a lot of fun with clear air.

"I'm so happy just to finally get that win (and) the monkey off our back as a team."

Dick Johnson Racing's Anton De Pasquale made the most of a late fadeout by Waters to claim second with teammate Will Davison coming home third.

The Game AFL 2024

Waters held off Sunday's early race winner Jamie Whincup to finish fourth with championship leader Shane Van Gisbergen fifth - the first time the New Zealander hasn't finished on the podium in 2021.

Earlier on Sunday, Van Gisbergen's perfect start to the season finished with six wins from six as he was pipped by Red Bull teammate Whincup.

Whincup, the seven-time champion, claimed the first win of his final full-time campaign after flipping the script on Van Gisbergen.

Having finished behind his teammate in Saturday's race, Whincup held off the 31-year-old for the 123rd race win of his storied career.

Despite both drivers missing the podium in the final race, Whincup said Red Bull would leave Tasmania content.

"Overall great weekend, we couldn't be happier," he told Fox Sports.

"SVG broke the lap record, we had a couple of one-twos and I had a race win. So happy days."

Ford star Davison came home a distant third in the early race behind the Red Bull pair with Waters, who also started the earlier race on pole, finishing fourth.

The next stop in the Supercars' season is at Tailem Bend in South Australia on May 8 and 9.
