New Zealand World Cup winner and Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio is pregnant with her second child and will miss the 2021 netball season.

Silver Ferns coach Noeline Taurua said the goal shooter's news was welcomed by everyone at Netball NZ.

"Massive congratulations to Ameliaranne, Damien and the whanau (family). I hope they enjoy this moment as we all look forward to meeting the newest member of our Silver Ferns family," she said.

"The ability for our elite female athletes to be mothers whilst still performing at the highest level is no mean feat."

Ekenasio, who was born in Australia, gave birth to her first child Ocean in 2017, before helping Aotearoa win the World Cup in 2019.
