WA drivers are in for a fresh round of pain at the petrol pump with the price of unleaded to skyrocket past $2 a litre on Wednesday, after the Albanese Government didn’t extend the cut to fuel excise.

The metro area’s unleaded petrol average will surge to 210.1 cents per litre tomorrow — a sharp jump from today’s average of 195.7 cents.

It marks the first time Perth unleaded prices have climbed over the $2 mark since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz triggered an international fuel crisis.

Wednesday’s spike leaves drivers paying more than 45 cents a litre more than they were just a month ago.

The dramatic price hit comes as the Federal Government’s fuel excise relief officially wrapped up on Sunday night.

The end of the policy strips away a 16-cent discount, with the full impact expected to flow through to service station pumps over the next week and a half.

Compounding the pain, international oil markets have flared up in recent weeks after hopes for an end to war in the Middle East were dashed, keeping the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping corridor largely shut.

Motorists hunting for relief tomorrow will face vast price swings depending on where they fill up.

7-Eleven stations will average the state’s highest unleaded price at 219.9 cents per litre, while United and Vibe are the only two major retailers averaging under $2 per litre tomorrow at 197.4 cents and 198.8 cents respectively.

Diesel drivers will fare even worse, with diesel set to average 242.3 cents per litre tomorrow, up from 239.8 cents today.
