WA’s most expensive house put up for sale as MinRes boss Chris Ellison and wife Tia sell in Mosman Park

WA’s most expensive home, belonging to Mineral Resources boss Chris Ellison and wife Tia, is once again on the market, and expected to create another record. The luxurious Mosman Park estate, set across 7565 sqm of prime riverfront land, made history and set a national property price record in 2009 when then-owner Angela Bennett sold it for $57.5 million. The property is now seeking offers which are expected to be well in excess of the 2009 price tag, as the billionaire pair prepare to downsize to another home. While the WA price record still remains 16 years later, a $45 million Sydney home has since captured the national record. The listing puts an end to Perth’s most famous demolition plans, following the Ellison’s 2019 plan to bulldoze the mansion and build two modern homes on the mega-block. The property has long stood out on Saunders St, which is known as multi-millionaires row. “If you have sailed down the Swan River, you will have noticed this stately home standing tall against the Mosman Park cliff front,” the advertisement reads. “Commanding an extraordinary position in Perth’s most prestigious waterfront enclave, this is a timeless residence of rare distinction; an iconic estate where architectural grandeur, exquisite craftsmanship and resort-style living converge to create a dream family home.” The sales advert describes it as having an indoor swimming pool pavilion, full-size tennis court, guest house, gate house, boathouse and direct private access to a jetty. A marble staircase and a glass lift connect the three floors of the main residence. Other features include a sauna, gym, chef’s kitchen and walk-in pantry, a cool room and a dumbwaiter to the pool area. There is a separate home on the property with a bedroom, bathroom, media room and a guest house. Both properties contain more than 2000sqm of internal and external living space. The pair at one stage owned 9159 sqm of land comprising three separate properties on Saunders St, after buying a $5 million neighbouring home in 2014. Under the 2019 redevelopment plan, that home was due to become a service compound with driveways and landscaping. But the pair ended up selling it in 2024. They also paid $6.6 million for a third property in Saunders Street in 2014, which they still own. MinRes shares hit a high of $90 per share in late 2022. It was nearly $64 in January, but is currently trading at about $58 per share.
