Sixteen years after debuting on Aussie TV, MKR has cemented a place for itself as Australia’s number one entertainment program this week, dominating the ratings.
The reality cooking contest, hosted by Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge, reached a whopping 2.02 million viewers on Monday night, with ratings soaring 34 per cent year-on-year.
The program also scored its biggest overnight audience since 2019, and highest ever overnight streaming audience — a great result for the legacy reality series.
The blockbuster ratings have been driven, in part, by the controversy surrounding contestants Jane and Shane, who copped backlash online for their hash judgement of other contestants’ dishes.
In a shock result, the pair, who talked a big talk, were eliminated on Monday night after their Instant Restaurant crashed and burnt spectacularly, their elaborate pigeon dish slammed by the judges as overcooked and dry.

Their shock failure meant that competition rivals Alisha and Deanne, self confessed “classy bogans”, were safe to proceed to the next round.
They will now face off against three new gatecrasher teams as the competition progresses.
At the top of the leaderboard, Tiffany and Giancarlo and runners-up Mary and Golden were fast-tracked to Kitchen HQ.
“Alisha and Deanne, Angus and Simon, and Krysten and Lucy will now face three new gatecrasher teams: hipster mates Harrison and Oliver, mum and son Sheridan and Ted, and sassy friends Zac and Zoe,” an official release reads.
Alisha described the result as “sweet, sweet karma served up” to 7NEWS.
“We were the underdogs and everyone’s telling us we’re going home first and then we were the ones to take Jane and Shane out … that was amazing,” she said.
MRK airs Monday and Tuesday at 7:30pm on Seven and 7Plus.
