Perth Festival

The city’s major arts festival kicks off with a massive program of music, theatre, film, dance and more. There are 13 Perth Festival commissions, 20 world premieres and 108 events altogether. Highlights include French theatre epic LACRIMA, South Korean production Haribo Kimchi and local theatre icon’s The Last Great Hunt’s faux foreign film, Le Nor (the rain). There is also a film program for young people called Cine Wonders, with a line-up of new films and nostalgic classics taking place at Luna SX in Fremantle and the new Revival House cinema in Como. There are 33 free events, including a great line-up of music at the East Perth Power Station, which is the festival hub. And the Lotterywest Film program at UWA’s Somerville Auditorium is ongoing.

Incandescence: Ballet at the Quarry

WA Ballet presents four world premieres of new dance works. Internationally acclaimed choreographers Tim Harbour and Ihsan Rustem present their works Once and Future and Incandescence respectively. WA Ballet dancers Chihiro Nomura and Polly Hilton are making their solo main-stage choreographic debuts, Nomura with Night Symphony Colours and Hilton with Paper Moon.

Fanny Lumsden
Friday, February 6, 8pm, Rosemount Hotel, North Perth
The alt-country singer hits town as part of her national headline tour. Perth punters may have caught Lumsden when she supported Lucinda Williams and Paul Kelly last year, which she did directly after a 23-date European tour. The two-time ARIA award winner is kicking off her national tour in Perth with her band, The Prawn Stars.
