STM Loves: Pippa Holt, Shirley’s, Quo Vadis show, jazz at Crystal Club and Celeste Barber’s Backup Dancer

Pippa Holt trunk show

Former British Vogue stylist Pippa Holt brought her range of luxe kaftans to Perth for a trunk show recently, showing off the summery pieces at COMO The Treasury. Holt says that even though she’s Australian, it was during a stint living in the unrelenting heat of Texas that the lightweight garment became her uniform. Her range is made from textiles handwoven by a group of female artisans in Mexico; each kaftan takes a month to make and no two are the same. Shirley’s

We love Manuka Woodfire Kitchen, so can’t wait to head into this new spot by the same team, just around the corner in High Street in Fremantle. A cute fit-out with wallpaper and cherry-red bar, Shirley’s is billed as a little wine bar where you can sit and have a bite (chef and restaurateur Kenny McHardy’s menu includes a smoked fish pie, through to Amelia Park lamb ribs with pomegranate and sumac) and a drink, perhaps The Myrtle, with Old Young’s 1829 gin, Lillet blanc and orange marmalade.

Celeste Barber tour

Ever wondered what it would be like to be one of Taylor Swift’s dancers? Well, you’re about to find out — from Celeste Barber’s point of view, at least. The popular comedian and actor has just announced a tour of her new show, Backup Dancer, promising to tackle everything from freeing nipples and inappropriately texting your therapist to the aforementioned musing on sharing the stage with a megastar. Quo Vadis

The sky was the limit when the North Metropolitan TAFE fashion department decided on the location for its upcoming runway event, selecting level 35 of the QV1 tower in the CBD. The high-rise setting comes as part of a collaboration with Perth Design Week, with the building designed by acclaimed architect Harry Seidler. The March 21 show will showcase works by the department’s current fashion and alumni students, with pre-show drinks on offer. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.

Jazz Nights at Crystal Club

If you like your music with a view, this limited series event on the 15th floor of Crown Towers will fit the bill. Starting this weekend and running every Saturday night until the end of April, artists from The Western Australian Jazz Project will rotate through the opulent Crystal Club, usually only open to hotel guests. Tickets start at $50 per person, including a drink on arrival, and each show runs from 8.30pm to 11.30pm. The gigs will be capped at about 60 people per night, so book ahead.

The Karijini Experience

The breathtaking Karijini region, home to the Banjima people, is set to come alive with an exciting line-up of art, cultural and dining experiences from April 4 to 7. For the foodies, Fervor will be setting up at Dales Gorge with chef Paul Iskov preparing the feast in front of diners. There will also be free cooking demonstrations in the Karijini Experience village throughout the four days, not to mention a bush tucker high tea. Kids are spoilt for choice with a selection of family-friendly activities, while singer and songwriter Dan Sultan will headline the Yurlu Lounge.
