To Ms Merrifield, who completed certificates 2 and 3 in horticulture at the Denmark campus, winning the award at the ceremony came as a shock.

“It was a complete surprise, I wasn’t expecting it,” she said.

“I just went along because I thought it would be a nice evening.”
