Letter to the Editor: Govt’s cash contribution to Albany gas issue is short-term solution, says Richard Norman

Great to see that the WA Government has announced a plan to resolve Albany’s ageing gas pipe network.

However, the commentary is a little vague and needs to be spelt out more clearly.

It hasn’t cost the Artful Dodger’s government $21m but a mere $15.5m, a far cry from the $80m network replacement cost.

The world is on fire at the moment. El Nino is set wreak havoc on a drying, polluted global landscape.

Roger, we need to move away from fossil fuel, not soon but now.

The $1600 doesn’t cut it as a financial incentive to move away from gas to a renewable solution, such as rooftop solar hot water or other electrical appliances.

Finally, what will happen when Albany and other regional city populations reach 100,00? That’s an awful lot of gas bottles.
