Taste Great Southern’s 20th anniversary to serve up mouth-watering events across the region

From food around the fire to locally made world-class wines, Taste Great Southern returns for its 20th year. This year’s festival will run from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 12, and features more than 40 events. Some are returning favourites, while others are making their debuts this year. Richard Campbell from CMS Events said the festival was one of the region’s premier food and wine events. “Taste Great Southern is a key tourism event for the region based on food and wine,” he said. With events in towns across the region, including Albany, Denmark, Katanning and Mount Barker, the program offers a smorgasbord of opportunities to get out, enjoy the Great Southern’s sweeping landscapes, and sample delicious food and drink with friends and family. Mr Campbell said with the range of events on offer, no one would feel like they were missing out. “Catch of the South, Great Southern Cellar Door, Haute Collection, Djeran Celebration, Women Of The Region, Taste Your Soul,” he said. “With over 40 to choose from, there is something for everyone.” The Djeran Celebration is a relatively new event, only running for its second year, and will be hosted at the 6000-year-old Oyster Harbour Traps. Promoting the cultures of the Menang, Koreng and Pibelman people of the Great Southern, attendees will experience a welcome to country, a smoking ceremony, and a foraging talk led by Kurrah Mia. Shane Osborn’s Mother’s Day luncheon is another not to be overlooked. The event, hosted at The Lake House Denmark, will feature a four-course meal carefully curated and crafted by Osborn and paired with Lake House Denmark Wines. Osborn is the first Australian chef to achieve one and two Michelin stars.
