Winning doubles to Albany trainer Roy Rogers and top city jockey Lucy Fiore at Percy Spencer Racecourse

Albany trainer Roy Rogers and top city jockey Lucy Fiore finished with winning doubles in Albany on Thursday. Fiore is enjoying a wonderful 2025-26 season and had two winners on the seven-race mid-week card, the first for husband and trainer Brandon Fiore. She then partnered with Rogers to claim race four with Head’em and almost landed a treble when $2.90 favourite Shaula was narrowly beaten in race six. In her sixth career start Bit Tired Actually ($7) won the Aidinville Premium Grains Maiden (1500m) for the Fiores, sprinting home strongly to beat $1.80 favourite Cosmic Gem by a long head. Head’em was well supported into $4 and notched a third win in Albany this season, well ridden by Fiore in the Hygain Regain Handicap (1100m). The Rogers-prepared galloper was doing his best work at the finish coming from fifth on the turn to beat Sir Dreamalot by nearly a length. It was a race-to-race double for Rogers, after he won the Western Hay Handicap (1000m) with smart mare Niccy’s Affair. Niccy’s Affair ($5) was ridden by Amy Jo Hayes, sitting just off early leader Brazen Bid ($3.30) before pouncing in the home straight to score a comfortable two-length win. Local trainers Steve Wolfe and Paul Hunter had impressive wins later in the day. God Has Drifted made it successive wins in Albany after a dominant display in race seven over 1100m. With the 2kg claim of apprentice Natika Riordan, the five-year-old gelding finished powerfully to win by more than a length with Hezangelic ($7) and Insyde Success ($5) second and third. Gingers Sister produced an eye-catching display in the Albany Stock Feeds Handicap (1600m), coming from well back to win a thrilling finish. Jockey Luke Campbell timed his run well, nabbing Shaula and Great Deal late in the straight to win by a half-length aboard Gingers Sister ($4.60). Makin Prophets made it three wins in a line for trainer Alan Smith after charging home from last to win the Mitavite Cool Vitality Handicap (1500m). Hoop Lisa Staples saved her mount up for one effort, powering home over the top to win by nearly a length. Next Destination also broke her maiden status for trainer Joshua Krispyn in race two over 1100m.
