Firefighters have contained a ferocious fire burning in Gnangara in Perth’s north-east.

Residents in the area of Sydney Road to the west, Gnangara Road to the south, Warbrook Road to the north and Centre Way to the east had been urged to evacuate the area, as the fire tore through the Gnangara pine plantation in a westerly direction.

Concerned emergency services knocked on doors along Trainor Road in Gnangara telling residents to leave.

Ash carried as far west as home near Lake Joondalup, while smoke could be seen from as far away as Osborne Park.

Emergency services have been battling the blaze since lunchtime on Wednesday, with multiple fire crews including water bombing aircraft on scene.
