Arson squad investigating after suspicious scrub fire sparked on Wellington Street in West Perth

Arson squad investigators are probing a suspicious scrub fire that was sparked in West Perth. It is believed a number of unknown offenders set fire to a tree and grass next to the footpath of Wellington Street near Outram Street on March 17 at about 7.10pm. Local residents were forced to use a hose to stop the flames from from spreading, before The Department of Fire and Emergency Services arrived. Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist. The scrub fire comes after a series of fires, that were believed to be deliberately lit, in Perth’s inner suburbs last year. In November, fire crews tackled Jacob’s Ladder — and its more than 240 steps — as flames fanned up the scrub at the iconic exercise location. The fire burned close to multi-million dollar apartment buildings and crews could be seen battling the inferno from the balconies. A patch of land measuring about 150m by 80m was destroyed by the fire. The bushfire was sparked days after a blaze tore through Kings Park.
