A pilot is dead after a helicopter crash on a remote property, sparking an investigation.

Emergency services were called to the outback site near Blackall, in Queensland's Central West, about 9.30am on Monday following reports of an aviation incident, police said.

The 42-year-old pilot was declared dead at the scene off Tumbar Road.

He was the sole occupant of the Robinson R22 helicopter - a two-seat, single-engine light utility chopper.

Specialist investigators are converging on the area.

"Police will assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau with their investigations into the cause of the incident," a police statement said.

Bureau investigators are expected to arrive on Tuesday to examine the aircraft and map the site.

Investigators would interview any witnesses and collect relevant recorded information along with pilot and aircraft maintenance records, the bureau said.

Any "components of interest" would also be recovered for further examination at the bureau's technical facilities in Canberra.
