Labour Day tragedy at Cheynes Beach as man in his 40s dies after medical episode at popular tourist spot

A man has died in the Great Southern after suffering a medical episode while on the sand at Cheynes Beach on the Labour Day public holiday. Just after 10am on Monday, emergency services received reports of a man in his 40s needing medical assistance at the popular beach about 60km east of Albany. Despite emergency first aid being rendered, the man was declared dead at the scene. Two St John WA crews were sent at 10.19am to the incident, which the Advertiser understands involved a motorcycle crash. Other beachgoers reported that the incident occurred on a more isolated section of the beach located a distance from the townsite and main stretch of beach. A police spokesperson said the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
