Rovers Football Club to celebrate community, family and its juniors and seniors at Family Fun Day this weekend

Rovers Football Club is gearing up for its Family Fun Day this weekend, hoping to attract new faces and unite the junior and senior football clubs into one ahead of this season. The event starts at 4pm at Greenough Oval on Saturday, March 21 and will celebrate the seniors, juniors, families and wider community. Club president Jim Green said it was an opportunity to promote the club to the wider community and bring together the junior and senior clubs, which have previously been seen as separate entities. “With where we are and the location, it’s good to have all the families from that area to come down and play,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is promote entities as one so we can move forward into the future. Juniors are our future players and they bring all our future players to us. “It’s just really to promote the football club and let everybody know we are part of the community and we want to do stuff for our local community.” Several family friendly activities will be on offer, including pony rides, face painting, bouncy castles and games. There will also be a free sausage sizzle on offer for those in attendance. It also serves as an opportunity for current and prospective players and parents to meet junior and senior club committee members, alongside some senior players. Rovers have welcomed back several players including three-time premiership player Gabriel Parfitt, and JJ Clune medallists Jaimon Alone, Chris Scott and Tom Denton. Former Docker and Rovers premiership player Josh Simpson is also returning to the club along with Tristan Simpson, who has played more than 100 games in the GNFL. Green said this pre-season had been a “positive turnaround,” with Corey and Brody Smith at the helm again for the league side. “We’ve been very in a very fortunate position where our two coaches, who came on board last year, are very passionate Rovers boys,” he said. “They played for Rovers, and they’ve got kids at Rovers — things like that. “So they’ve done a lot of hard work last year and the benefits are showing this year.”
