A Golden Guitar-winning musician with a love of inland WA is making his way through the Great Southern to spread the joy of music and awareness of the impacts of bullying.

Australian country musician Tom Curtain has hit the Great Southern Highway with his We’re Still Here show this summer.

He will perform in Cuballing on Friday, December 10, before heading east to Narembeen on December 11 and south to Gnowangerup for a show on December 12.

His 21/2-hour show features horses, working dogs, bush humour and his own music to raise awareness of Dolly’s Dream — a not-for-profit campaign to prevent bullying.

Curtain said while regional WA was a big place, people all over the country faced similar issues.

“Dolly’s Dream is a special organisation that raises awareness to a great number of kids but also their parents in relation to bullying, and particularly online bullying, in today’s society,” Curtain said.

“We are still getting a lot of really positive responses to the song Speak Up, which I wrote for Dolly, a 14-year-old girl who took her own life from online bullying.

“Unfortunately, the messages resonate all too well with our communities out here.

“We hear from a lot of families saying the song has given them an opportunity to talk to their kids about what’s going on in their lives.

“We are hoping to connect with some schools on this tour as well.

“On this tour, we want to remind everyone we haven’t forgotten them, we know what they face day in and day out, and it’s good to come together and blow off a bit of steam.

“It’s what keeps our rural communities going.”
