RSPCA Community Action Day set to help struggling pet owners from Albany and Katanning

RSPCA will host Community Action Days in the Great Southern later this month to provide free supplies and advice to pet owners in need.

The Community Action Day events will include free dog health checks and microchipping, free dog and cat food and free flea and worming treatments.

Each session will run for three hours with Katanning’s starting at 9am at the Ram Pavilion on September 16 and Albany’s beginning at noon at the Rainbow Coast Community Garden on September 17.

RSPCA WA’s Great Southern Inspector Georgina Brown said Albany was the cruellest region in the State after the city registered 190 animal cruelty reports.

“Albany generated more cruelty reports than any other regional local government area last financial year and lack of food or vet care are top concerns for pets in the area,” she said.

Ms Brown said pet ownership was becoming increasingly difficult due to the cost-of-living crisis and RSPCA hoped to make life a little easier for pet owners.

“It’s hoped this support will ease some pressure on family budgets and help stop small health problems for pets becoming big and expensive ones,” Ms Brown said.

“We want to keep much-loved pets together with their owners wherever possible.
